Islamabad, August 28, 2012: In an interactive
session on the topic of Pak-India Relations Honourable
Nawabzada Malik Amaad Khan, State Minister of Foreign
Affairs, shared with the Youth Parliament Pakistan his
analysis on the Pak-India Relations and the way forward.
He said, “Increased trade between the neighbours will have
a positive impact on Pak-India relations. There is total
distrust between the two nations. So, the question arises
as to what we can do to eliminate the trust deficit.
Keeping in view the present international scenario, the
regional cooperation organisations can play a pivotal role
towards the peaceful settlement of international
disputes.” He stressed upon the dire need of setting
aside the perpetual hawkish attitude by the political
leadership of both the nuclear armed neighbours. “The
parliamentarians of both the countries have always been
very keen for taking concrete steps as a significant part
of the existing confidence building measures”, the
Honourable Minister added. He expressed appreciation for
the intellectual capacity possessed by the youth
parliamentarians regarding the issues of national and
international concern.
Earlier, the proceedings of the
house were initiated by a resolution which expressed
serious concerns and strong disappointment on the decision
of the United States for becoming the permanent member of
United Nations Security Council.
Mr. Muhammad Zafar
Siddique (YP39-PUNJAB19) was of the view that this
particular decision will have grave repercussions for the
system of multilateral cooperation promoted by UN Charter.
The resolution was subsequently adopted.
Mr. Jamal Naseer Jamaee (YP50-SINDH02) and
Mr. Muhammad Hammad
Malik (YP16-KPK03) moved a resolution which demanded
that Pakistan must raise the issue of Indian and Afghan
interference in the internal matters of Pakistan. The
resolution was referred to the concerned committee for
further consideration.
Later, the Youth Parliamentarians
tabled a resolution to discuss that there is a need to
make use of South Asian Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA). “The
bilateral economic relations between India and Pakistan
are being affected by the political factors since
independence”, the youth parliamentarians said.
Members of the Youth Parliament also visited the Senate of
Pakistan; where they met Secretary Senate Mr. Iftikharullah Babar. He briefed the members on the working
and rules of the upper house.
