Stockholm, November 27: The Youth Parliament Pakistan
delegation that is in Stockholm for a week-long study
visit, met and interacted today with the Coordinator and
Senior Legal Advisor of the Parliamentary Ombudsman, Ms.
Charlotte De Geer Fallman. Elaborating the jurisdiction
of the Parliamentary Ombudsman, she outlined the
parameters and the mechanism deployed by the ombudsman to
ensure accountability in the Swedish society. The members
of Youth Parliament Pakistan briefed her about the legal
framework of Pakistan’s Federal ombudsman- Wafaqi Mohtasib.
The meeting at the parliamentary ombudsman was followed by
the guided tour of Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament. In an
interaction with Mr. Anders Norin, the Deputy Clerk of the
Chamber of Riksdag the Youth Parliamentarians were briefed
about the Constitutional History, Legislative Procedures,
Parliamentary Committee System, Electoral Process and the
working norms of Riksdag. This was followed by an
interactive question-answer session.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
representatives from the divisions of the Swedish Foreign
Ministry including EU, UN, Human Rights and Trade gave a
detailed presentation regarding the pivotal role played by
the Sweden.

part of the delegation.
The Study Visit, supported by the Swedish Embassy,
Islamabad and the Swedish Institute (SI), Stockholm, is
facilitated so as to provide an opportunity to selected
Youth Parliament members to understand the Swedish
political and Parliamentary system and engage in a
meaningful dialogue with Swedish youth counterparts on
issues of mutual interest and concern.
The Youth Parliament Pakistan (www.youthparliament.pk)
is a PILDAT (www.pildat.org)
project that provides a platform for Pakistani Youth. It
is patterned after the National Assembly of Pakistan with
60 members from all over the country. The Youth Parliament
membership is selected from across the country for a
one-year term. Establishment and facilitation of the Youth
Parliament is part of PILDAT's focus on Youth in the
country and Youth's awareness education and training in
the norms of politics and democracy in the country. PILDAT
strongly feels that sustainable democracy and the
sustainability of sound democratic institutions in
Pakistan is not possible without youth's involvement in
the democratic and political process even if this
involvement is simply as a citizen or voter.
The Youth Parliament Pakistan has its own 2-Party system,
the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition,
a Youth Cabinet, a Shadow Cabinet and Parliamentary
Committees. Senator S. M. Zafar, serves as a
chairman of the Youth Parliament Steering Committee while
Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi, MNA, Deputy Speaker
National Assembly is the Patron of Youth Parliament. Other
notable members of the Steering Committee include Mr.
Wazir Ahmad Jogezai, former Deputy Speaker; Dr.
Donya Aziz, MNA; Mr. Khurram Dastgir Khan, MNA
and Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan, MNA and Mr. Nadeem
Afzal Gondal, MNA.
The Youth Parliament Pakistan consists of 60 young men and
women who represent the four provinces including, FATA,
Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad
Capital Territory in proportion to the population of these
units. The first-ever batch of Youth Parliament Pakistan
completed its first term successfully in 2007-2008, second
batch completed its term in 2008-2009, Third batch of
Youth Parliament Pakistan completed its term in 2010 and
the Fourth batch of Youth Parliament Pakistan completed
its term in 2012. The induction of the Fifth Parliament is
