November 26: A delegation of the Youth
Parliament Pakistan is due to visit Sweden from November
26-30, 2012 as part of a Youth Study Visit facilitated by
the Swedish Institute (SI) and initiated by the Swedish
Embassy, Islamabad. The 12 member delegation of the Youth
Parliament Pakistan, a project conceived, planned and
implemented by PILDAT in Pakistan since 2007, will
endeavour to understand how the Swedish Political System
works and how citizens, especially youth and civil society
organizations, hold the government to account in Sweden.
As part of the visit programme, Youth Parliament Pakistan
members will also visit the Swedish Parliament (the
Riksdag) and see how its Members and Standing Committees
work. The Young Pakistanis will also hold a dialogue with
the Ministers, Youth organizations and different
departments of the Swedish Government.

The Study
Visit, supported by the Swedish Embassy, Islamabad and the
Swedish Institute (SI), Stockholm, is facilitated so as to
provide an opportunity to selected Youth Parliament
members to understand the Swedish political and
Parliamentary system and engage in a meaningful dialogue
with Swedish youth counterparts on issues of mutual
interest and concern.
The
Youth Parliament Pakistan, an initiative of PILDAT since
2007, engages Youth in Pakistan in healthy discourse,
expose them to democratic process and practices and
facilitates free but structured expression of their views.
Patterned after the National Assembly of Pakistan, the
Youth Parliament Pakistan consists of 60 young men and
women who represent the four provinces, FATA,
Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad
Capital Territory in proportion to the population of these
units. The Youth Parliament follows its own two-Party
System, an elected Leaders of the House or Youth Prime
Minister, Leader of the Opposition, a Youth Cabinet, a
Shadow Cabinet and Standing Committees. There are two mock
parties: The Blue Party (Liberal) and The Green Party
(Moderate).
An
independent
Steering Committee comprising veteran and
young members of Pakistan’s Parliament oversees the
selection and functioning of Youth Parliament Pakistan
